I Love Jackie Evancho

~ JACKIE EVANCHO ~

Yep, like you, I love Jackie Evancho too, and like most everyone else, I too discovered this amazing phenom in 2010 through AGT and haven't looked back since. Here then, an up to date treat for all die-hard Jackie Evancho fans, an interview done by TeenVOGUE with 14-yr old Jackie.

"Singing Top 40 in the car is something we can kind of manage (key word: kind of), but when we bust out our classical chops? Well, let's just say you better watch out. That's a job better suited for Jackie Evancho, the 14-year-old starlet who stole the hearts of the nation on America's Got Talent and has since made girls everywhere dream of a life on Broadway. It's been two years since her last studio album, but we're happy to report her latest, Awakening, hits shelves Sept. 23 and will be followed by the ultimate cherry on top: A PBS TV special.

If you're a reality talent show junkie like we are, you probably watched Jackie's season of AGT, the opportunity she credits for her journey to superstardom. "I learned a great deal by the whole experience—it launched me in a big way, which I'm very grateful for," Jackie says. Armed with the stamp of approval from the season five panel (ahem, Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, and Howie Mandel), Jackie came in as runner-up at age of 10, and she was only getting started.

Fast-forward four years later and Jackie not only holds that title, but also the youngest solo artist to ever to go platinum. Oh, and did we mention she's sang for the President, First Lady, and Oprah? Because she's sang for the President, First Lady, and Oprah. If she wasn't already oozing cool cred, Jackie recorded a version of the hauntingly beautiful "Rains of Castamere" from Game of Thrones for the album, never mind the fact she's never seen an episode.

But while Jackie's yet to watch GoT, she does credit another dark-laced production as inspiration that also makes an appearance on her album. "The start really began when my family went to see the movie The Phantom of the Opera—I loved it so much! I started singing it when I got home, and my parents were like 'wow!'" We have a feeling that reaction was a serious understatement, and judging by the crazy trajectory her career took, pretty much everyone else agreed. "I started auditioning for talent shows, which eventually led me to getting on AGT."

Jackie, who listens to everything from current Top 40 to throwback jams from the 80s and 90s and even EDM, says she got a lot of guidance from her parents, manager, and label for Awakening, but was able to take the reigns more on this album than any of her others. "I had a big hand in choosing the songs, the look of the album cover, and the location and creative of the PBS TV special." And speaking of that special, she spilled some deets from the shoot. "It's gorgeous! I shot it at Longwood Gardens, and it's like paradise," she continues. "We covered the stage in flowers and shot in beautiful locations. It was really special. Awakening means the blossoming of beauty, which is what flowers and gardens are all about. I interpret that in song."
Her album drops on September 23 and very much fits into Jackie's classical crossover style, but for the first time ever, she's singing some new songs that were written especially for her. "There's more of a pop feel to some of those songs, but I do sing classical songs that really showcase my voice," she says. "I think there's a lot for everyone on this album."

You'll have to wait until December to tune into the special (happy holidays to us!), but until then we've got an exclusive clip of Jackie spilling her ultimate downtime activities, because—you know—she's a real down-to-earth girl who loves her dog (adorably named Maggie!) just like the rest of us.

Are you as excited for Awakening as we are?"

Here below then, is the interview video & a taste of what's on the
New CD ~  Awakeningwhich will be out on September 23!

I Love Cape Town

Cape Town's Beautiful Table Mountain

Oh yes, Cape Town is in my blood. I love it with all my heart, was born in it, grew up in it and lived in it for most of my life. It is a city like no other. Surrounded by beautiful beaches and of course with our beautiful blue mountain, the iconic Table Mountain, visible from everywhere you may be in the City or surrounds. The people of Cape Town are also like no other in the country. We are not as industrious maybe, as the Johannesburg people upcountry, as we love to chill, braai(BBQ), laugh and have fun, along with of course working at our regular jobs. But we love to celebrate and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of our very beautiful city more than we like to make money! Afterall, what use is money without being able to enjoy it, right? And can you blame us? I mean, just look at this city!

And SO much more. Lots of sunshine, lots of sunny people, and of course, some not so sunny, but how boring would life in the Cape be if they were not a part of it too, hmmm?

Cape Town Peeps...They Are...

Lovers.....

And Of Course, There's Our Beloved...........

Madiba, Nelson Mandela.....

Ok, ok, so he's not officially a Cape Town peep, but we embrace & love him here just as much as the rest of our South African Rainbow Nation does, so there!

Then there are the Cape Malay Areas, so beautiful in their colourful glory; the occupants' personalities as colourful as their houses. Seeing them in their crisp white tunics going to or from Mosques, or just about their lives, is a typical Cape Town scene. And enjoying their typical and by now very much integrated, Cape Malay foods, is just heavenly! When I am in other countries, I make a point of cooking Cape Malay influenced dishes and then revel in the foreigners' surprised faces and the eminating oooh's & aaah's as they happily tuck into the unique mixtures of sweet & salty, spicy & fruity and of course curried yumminesses, that these fragrant and delicious culinary talents have produced over the years in this Cape Town society.

Yup, Cape Town People, a post all on it's own! A post for the future on this blog.........

Today, I am looking out of my bedroom window as I write this article, and enjoying a view of bright sunshine, blue skies, green hills & blue mountains in the distance. Birds' nests are hanging from nearby trees and people are going by in cars and on foot. It is the beginning of Spring. Last year this time, we had Snow on Table Mountain!! and it was bitterly cold. This year....? We've had 36'C/97'F in the middle of Winter! Cape Town weather....like it's people.....unpredictable, varied, mostly sunny but with cold spells, sometimes like a baby too, windy (and you want to stay indoors when the "Cape Doctor" blows!), wet & unexpected! It's not for nothing that we often take along clothes for all weathers when going out in Cape Town....because Cape Town can let you have all 4 seasons in one day, and then some, when it feels like it!

I have visited and lived in a few places in the world, but for me, Cape Town is still my greatest love. It sort of gets under your skin and squeezes your heart till your heart explodes in little fits of happy "aaah-this-is-the-life" moments. I am smitten. Forever.

Yes, sadly there's another side to Cape Town too that may not be so pleasant, but that's a topic for another post methinks and a different blog. For now, I just want to think of the things about Cape Town which make it so pleasant, unique, beautiful, and makes me always want to say, I just......
